Our School Day

The school day starts at 8.30am and finishes at 3.00pm.  Registration is from 8:30 to 8.45am.

Morning playtimes

In the morning, children in Y1 and Y2 have a break from 10.30am – 10.45am; older children from 10.15 – 10.30am. Please note that these timings are fluid and change, with year groups having staggered breaks to avoid overcrowding on the playgrounds.

Reception have break times which are quite flexible.  Towards the end of the school year, they will join children in Key Stage 1 to have breaks at set times.

Lunch

Children in Reception have their lunch at 11.30am and their break ends at 12.30pm.  Those in Y1 and Y2 have a staggered lunch which begins at 12.00 noon and ends at 1:00pm.  Y3 – Y6 children begin their break at 12.00pm.  Lunchtimes for all end at 12:50pm.

Drop-off and collection

At the beginning and end of the school day in both schools, parents are encouraged into the playground. This helps to build up a close relationship between home and school – we want to have good links with all parents.  If normal arrangements have to be altered (eg you are delayed or another person is collecting your child), please let us know.  This avoids any confusion or upset.

In the Infant School the children are dismissed from their Year Group entrances.

In the Junior School the children are dismissed from the large playground.

Getting to school

To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. Alternatively, we have bike-racks. If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely. 

The roads outside the school (Curtis Road and Royal Avenue) are part of the Safer Streets initiative. This means that, unless you have a residential permit or a staff permit displayed on your dashboard, cars are not permitted to drive down these roads during the peak times (8:15-9:15am and 2:30pm to 3:30pm).
