Welcome to our Year 2 webpage. 

Our year group consists of three classes and our teachers are Miss Tominey and Miss Kurucz. We are lucky enough to have the help of some amazing teaching assistants and their names are Mrs Smith, Mrs Woodward and Miss Gawman.

We start the day as soon as we step through the door promptly at 8:30  with registration by 8.45. This is followed by a school assembly. After assembly, the class dives into phonics or spelling, then moves on to Literacy, followed by a Guided Reading session before break. What a busy start to the morning! 

After the morning break, the focus shifts to Maths, where the children engage in lessons and activities designed to develop their numeracy skills. The rest of the day continues with more fun lessons such as History (where we will learn about The Tudor), Geography (where we will be travelling around the world to learn about Thailand and Kenya!), as well as PE, Art with Miss Gawman and Forest School with Mrs Smith. The Year 2 children are incredibly lucky this year and will have the chance to play the Gamelan this year - an instrument that originated from Indonesia.

During the children’s time in Year 2, they will be introduced to the layout of Government-set Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) that they sit in Year 4. We introduce this so early to help reduce children’s worries about the check and support their understanding of what the check will look like. We will focus on building children's fluency with the 2, 5, and 10 times tables. Children should Year 2 confident in rote counting in these time tables so we spend time to enhancing their fluency in answering these questions out of order. We utilise the website Mrs Thompson's Times Tables, which you can also use at home. The check usually allows the children to answer in a 6-second period but this is something we would expect children to become more successful during the latter part of the year.

https://ttrockstars.com/ - Time Tables Rock Stars is a website your children will be familiar with as they will have opportunities to access this website in school and the children will also be able to access their homework here.
