Assistant Cook (School Kitchen)

Term time only. 17.75 hours/week

£12.85 - £13.26 per hour (dependent on experience)

We are seeking a reliable, enthusiastic, and experienced Assistant Cook to join our friendly school kitchen team at Calcot Schools. You will support the preparation and service of nutritious meals for our pupils, ensuring high standard of food hygiene and safety at all times. You will also step in for the Cook, when needed, helping the kitchen run smoothly every day.

Hours: 17.75 hours per week

• Monday to Thursday: 9.30am -1.15pm

• Friday: 10.30am - 1.15pm

• Additional hours may be required to cover staff absence or school holidays (paid via timesheet)

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing, cooking and presenting meals and snacks in line with school menus.

• Support menu planning, stock rotation, storage and basic kitchen administration.

• Serve food to pupils and staff in a friendly and professional manner.

• Maintain the highest levels of cleanliness, hygiene and organisation of the kitchen and equipment.

• Follow all food hygiene, health & safety regulations, undertaking training as required.

• Implement and maintain the School’s food standards.

• Support the Cook Manager with daily kitchen operations.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in a kitchen or catering environment.

• Basic knowledge of food hygiene principles and safe handling practices.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy environment.

• Good communication skills.

• A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
